Whimsy Wednesday! Lights, Cat and Dracula! ...and Zombies!

Hello Everyone!!!
Welcome to Whimsy Wednesday!
I have a spookily-whimsical blog post for you today!
Mwuuuuaaahhhahaaahaha!!
Let's start with the lights and cat!
I found this cat light on Walkabout today and just had to bring it home! I'm usually pretty minimal about my seasonal decorations (I'd rather spend the resources on loved ones than on things) and so any additions have to be quite worthy before I'll bring them home. I think we call agree that this is worthy! Heee!

The last portion of this post are some highlights from the 20th Anniversary of the Saint Paul Art Crawl, which I and Sprite Creations celebrated with the Artists of the Lowertown Lofts Co-op!
For those who are unaware, the Crawl starts on Friday evening and is open through Sunday early evening.
Saturday evening also happens to be the Zombie Pub Crawl in Downtown Saint Paul! Hundreds of people dress up as zombies and have a good time shambling about! It is really quite a remarkable sight!! The make-up is absolutely AMAZING!!!!  We never expected to be visited by a small horde of Zombies at our spot in the 3rd Floor Atrium of the Lowertown Lofts, but these fine ghouls took the time to stop by and mob our table! Feast your eyes on the scene above (Courtesy of the PhotoGhoul that accompanied them)!

Fortunately, Faeries and Faerie Friends don't seem to be very appetizing to the Undead as we emerged unscathed and they continued on their never-ending quest for BRAINS! So Much Fun!! My many thanks to that throng of wraiths for including us in their spirited adventures! I hope that when this is reposted to Facebook, they'll tag themselves in the photo so I can give proper credit and Thanks to them for livening an otherwise dead last moments of Saturday evening at the Crawl! (HA!! See the pun?!)

Ahem... Ok!
Speaking of the Undead... let's chat about Dracula for a moment! Or atleast the first actor to play Dracula - Bela Lugosi!
This necklace was born in 2010 and created around the coffin-shaped pendant and the photo-reproduction of Bela Lugosi in his famous role as Dracula! It's title is Undying Elegance and that sums up my assessment of Mr. Lugosi's Dracula! He did such an astounding job of creating a creepy and dangerous, yet intriguing and sensual villian! Bravo!
So... why mention that in this post? This creation found it's perfect partner this weekend!!! The lady who adopted it is writing a book about vampires that is filled with humor, whimsy and originality! (That's all the more I'll say about it, as it is not yet published...) If that is not enough of a fabulous connection with the necklace, she told me a story about her father that sealed the deal! Her father was a soldier in World War I (as was Mr. Lugosi) on a train in Europe. As he landed in a seat on the train, he turned to the man seated beside him and exclaimed, "Are you Dracula?!" Bela replied in the affirmative and the tale was resolved with the description, "And my Dad spent the next 2 and 1/2 days partying on the train with Bela Lugosi!" Absolutely marvelous!!! And so here is that creation that found such an excellent home!
And there you have it!
I'll wrap up this Whimsy Wednesday with mention of a newly-scheduled show coming up this weekend!!
This Saturday, Oct. 20th, I and Sprite Creations will be celebrating All Hallow's Eve with the fine folks at BellaLuna
We'll be there from 10am to 6pm for all your Faerie Finery and Halloween shopping needs!

Whimsy Wednesday! Custom Creations and Unusual Jewels!

Hello Hello!
Welcome to Whimsy Wednesday!
Today is all about unusual jewels, including a Custom Creation that is winging it's way to it's person now!
Let's start with the new creations!
I've been playing with Mood Beads as part of earring creations lately and this is what has grown into completion!
Title: Secret Garden, Faerie Wisdom
Ingredients: Secret Garden Mood bead, hand-finished brass beadcaps (USA), metal, Czech glass, surgical steel earwires.
These are a Custom Creation for a woman who will shortly be walking the El Camino and it is my honor to create earrings that might accompany her on this epic journey!

Title: Jeweled Lotus Mood
Ingredients: Blue Mystique Mood beads, Czech glass, metal, surgical steel earwires.
These were the second Custom Creation prototype. They remind me of a lotus flower, adorned with jewels!

In wrapping up this post, I wanted to show you these last creations, which were adopted at the Bean Factory Artist Market!  They were chosen as an ensemble by a lady clothed all in blue!

Earring Title:  Water Dragon Eggs
Necklace Title:  Celtic Beauty

She mentioned that she loves water, dragons and the darker shades of blue...which made these and she a perfect compliment for each other!
I love it when my Creations find the perfect home! YAY!

Speaking of adoption... this is the next opportunity to see these creations in person!
August 11th!
Saturday only!  10am to 6pm

Magical Monday! Sharing Stories and Shinies!

Hello Everyone!!
Welcome to Magical Monday!!  I hope your weekend was superb!
Mine was and I have stories and shinies to share!
This past weekend saw me and Sprite Creations returning to the Bean Factory Artist Market! It was much fun as we saw old friends and made new ones! Thank you to everyone who stopped by!! We also had a chance to try out a new tent/table layout as we set up in the soaking rain on Sunday morning! I'm sharing this with you because of the serendipity(and thus magic) of the circumstance! We were happy to use the two day show as an excuse to catch up with good friends. The visit was long overdue. They had a rainbow umbrella languishing amongst other unclaimed garage sale items and asked if we had a use for such a thing. My response was, "How could I not have a use for a Rainbow Umbrella"?!!!  A photo of it is below!
Isn't it so cheerful and bright?
This wonderful addition to our lives helped us tremendously the next day as we set-up our tent and sidewalls in the pouring rain.  As many of you with tents know, it is really difficult to have a completely waterproof tent canopy and the rain started to seep in around the seams.  We erected the umbrella inside and underneath the canopy, clustered the tables, displays and creations underneath it's bright colours and hung creations and a banner from it's support spokes and structure!  YAY!! Now it's a festive feature to draw folks in on a rainy day!  Fortunately, the rain cleared out in only a few hours and the rest of the day was filled with sun!  We received many compliments on our set-up and now we are plotting more uses for our fabulous accoutrement!  Yay! for good friends and magical timing!

This next story is of the necklace pictures below, A Mermaid's Tale. You can find the story and details of it's growth here!  We were paid an absolutely delightful visit by someone who was cheerful, fun and was a delight to have in our space! As it turns out, she adopted a this very special mermaid-themed necklace!  I think there must have been some magic afoot, as she reminds me a bit of a mermaid herself!  It is such a gift to an artist when someone immediately groks an intricate piece of art that you've created and so it was with she and this creation!    YAY!!!!

So!  Now you know a little of the magic that happens at the shows, perhaps you'll join us next time you're in the area?!
That would be fun!

My next event is August 11t!
Saturday only!  10am to 6pm

Saint Paul, MN 55108

See you on Wednesday!

Whimsy Wednesday! Shinies and Adoption!

Hello Everyone!!!
Happy Whimsy Wednesday!
I have a few shinies and fun stuff to show you from this past weekend! I was attending a small convention in outstate Minnesota that has a relaxed, decidedly geeky flavor to it, and what happened is the theme of this post! As is my usual wont, I donated a few pairs of earrings to the fund-raising Art Auction at this event. The rules of the Art Auction state that all art submitted to the auction must be created at the convention and I find the instant gratification of creating and seeing the adoption of those creations very heart-warming!
And here they are!

I'm pleased to say that they all found excellent homes with nifty people and raised a bit of funds as well! YAY!!!
Where is the whimsy in the above tidbit, you ask? Well... look at the title for the fish earrings! Recognize that from a certain Dr. Suess book? Yup! and there are, indeed, blue fish on those earrings! Heeeeee!!!

Next up I have an actual portrait of an awesome creation and it's person! First, let me jog your memory.... You might remember these earrings...

...from this post from late last year.
These lovelies have been adopted by this bodacious beauty!

Adding to the awesome-ness of her graciously agreeing to model her newly-adopted creations is the fact that she's wearing a tee-shirt with the schematics of the Millenium Falcon printed on it!!!!
SO MUCH WIN!

A few more things to mention before you return to surfin' the 'Net...
SaraCura has been a Creation Location of Sprite Creations since 2008 and I've really enjoyed every moment of that! SaraCura is changing directions and redefining their business, which will not include consigned independent art. We wish SaraCura the very best of luck in this next prosperous step in their successful business journey!
Other good news is that the creations that were fostered at SaraCura will be available for adoption in my Etsy shoppe in the coming days!
Speaking of adoption.... I have a few shows coming up that I think you'd like to know about!
Bellantyne-Saturday, Feb. 18th Bella Luna Boutique, Minnetonka, MN (USA).
Moonlight and Magic Expo-Saturday, April 21st Cambria Inn&Suites Maple Grove, MN (USA).
Spring Saint Paul Art Crawl-Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 27-29th Lowertown Lofts, Saint Paul, MN (USA).

Whimsy Wednesday! Peeking into Different Worlds!

Hello Everyone!!!
As I was looking through the creations and photos I have for you today, I realized there is a central theme of glimpses of other worlds and that seems apt for both the title of this blog and a 'snapshot' of my life right now! So! Let's dive right in!
If you didn't have a chance to join me at the Saint Paul Art Crawl over the weekend, you were both missed and missed out on a lot of fun!
Here is a photo of my booth...

We were treated to live soundscaping music from Todd Madson on Saturday, performance art at the recycled milk carton igloo built by child-artist Matilda) just to the right of my booth later that day and all sorts of nifty people adopting creations throughout the weekend! Though I love to see the creations adopted and couldn't be happier that they found perfect homes; some of the creations adopted this weekend have been travelling with me for a while...so...I felt a little odd and a little melancholy as they left with their people (some of them being worn on their people in the leaving!!).
But enough of that perspective!
Let's move on to the creations I have to show you!
I've had these luscious lampwork glass beads by Beau Hawn for a little while and was determined to make something of them today! And so I have!
Paired with Swarovski crystals and Czech-pressed glass, I think they are lovely!
Title:A Window into the Fire Sprite's World
Ingredients: Beau Hawn lampwork glass, Czech "window" glass, Swarovski crystal, sterling silver.

And the last creation is a peek into the more watery depths...
Title: A Peek Into a Mermaid's World
Ingredients: Czech-pressed glass, copper, metal, surgical steel earwires (hypo-allergenic)

And so there you have it!
See you on Friday!!!
